Overview

Wonderful Simplex Typewriter manufactured in New York in the early 1920's. This lovely typewriter that comes in its original box with inside instructions has a colourful red, green & cream tin plated base & type wheel. As an object its highly decorative & a graphic designers dream. This is quite unlike the typewriters that we know today. Instead of using a fixed keyboard, the letters are arranged around the circumference of a movable dial. A character is typed by turning the dial until your preferred letter locks in place. The dial is then pressed down to type on the paper. This process automatically creates a space before the next letter. Full instructions are on the inside of the box. These charming pieces were created for people on the go & were far easier to handle than bulkier typewriter examples. Given their simple & colourful design, it's easy to see why these were later marketed as children's toys. This piece is in good condition for its age with minor signs of wear. There is slight rust in places as seen in the pictures. There is substantial wear to the box including blobs of ink. I am selling this as a decorative item as it has not been fully tested. Box dimensions: Length: 28 cm Width: 18 cm Depth: 10 cm Rare Model D Simplex New York 1920S American Dial Typewriter For Travel Use - in Original Box With Instructions Not Tested
