Rhododendron `Scarlet Wonder', as the name suggests, creates a wonderful show of scarlet-red flowers in late spring. This evergreen shrub can be appreciated for its perfect mounding and spreading habit. It forms a dense round bush packed with beautiful dark green foliage backing the striking scarlet flowers. Scarlet Wonder blooms in late spring and continues until mid-summer. Its dark-green glossy leaves are short and oval. These quilted looking leaves are evergreen and will keep your Rhododendron shrub perky throughout all the seasons. Its funnel-shaped scarlet flowers bloom profusely in loose clusters, featured with wavy edges and faint brown freckles. It does well in colder regions in fun sunlight but thrives most in shady spots. It personally dislikes too much heat, so avoid planting in spots that are exposed to sun for several hours. Add this Rhododendron plant in the base of taller shrubs or trees, where it can receive filtered sunlight. It flourishes in acidic soil that is well-drained.
