Overview

Rhododendron Ramapo Please note: This product cannot be delivered to Northern Ireland. Rhododendron `Ramapo' is an excellent compact and evergreen shrub that blooms brilliant purple flowers in late spring. Its floral values are noteworthy, its brilliance captivating to both wildlife and garden visitors. This hardy American hybrid of Rhododendron features colourful leaves that carry exceptional year-round interest. Its young leaves are blue-grey in colour that turn bronze-tinged in colder season. It blooms clusters of attractive lavender-purple flowers with elegant red-tipped stamens. These funnel-shaped flowers create a dazzling contrast with the blue-green foliage. This contrast is very bright, visible from far distance, and definitely noticed by bees and hummingbirds. Rhododendron Ramapo shrubs grow naturally dwarf in size, preferring full to partial sunlight. Plant them in any organically rich, acidic soil that is well-drained. Choose a sheltered spot for young plants to grow and thrive. Even though they are hardy, their flowers do need protection from frost damage. Add a layer of mulch to its base for moisture retention and to suppress weeds. Prune Rhododendron after the flowering season if they are planted in containers. Rhododendron Ramapo is perfect for small gardens in cold climates. They look best when used as a low-hedge, planted in groups near taller shrubs. These are easy to grow flowering shrubs with very showy spring flowers.
